In
1997, Clifford and Sally Clift were busy earning a living
in real estate development and title insurance. Clifford began
researching Christmas tree and herb cultivation in Colorado,
then became a master gardener through the Colorado State University
Extension program. This led to the eventual purchase of 20
acres east of Greeley, Colorado and the birth of Fern Hill
Farm - not to mention loads of hard work. Sally retired in
'04 to work full time on the farm. Each year, Scotch and Southwest
pine, Fir and Spruce seeds are purchased and sent to Colorado
State University for fall planting. The following spring,
the seedlings are transplanted into gallon pots and kept in
a protected shade house for a year. The next spring, they
plant the seedlings in the field. Each season the trees are
sheared, trimmed and shaped into beautiful Christmas trees.
2OO4 marked the inaugural opening of Fern Hill Farm to the
public - 6 years after the first seedlings were planted in
the field.
Cliff
& Sally have a wonderful family - 2 sons, Norman, married
to Katherine Hayden, and Paul, married to Heather. They have
3granddaughters, Avery, Susan & Quincy.
